SCHOOLS across the borough are celebrating a 'good' report following recent Ofsted inspection — marking a turnaround in the standard of education Bury.

St Peter's CE Primary School, Bury, has been lifted out of the requires improvement category to be marked as good.

St Andrew's CE Primary in Ramsbottom also achieved a good grade.

Ofsted suspended many of its inspections during the 2020/21 academic year, so these are some of the first of a new round of reports to be published under a new inspection framework.

Bury's education chiefs said it was their aim for all schools to be good or better after standards in the borough's schools slipped dramatically in recent years.

Cllr Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader and children’s services chief, visited St Peter’s Primary School to congratulate staff and pupils for their achievement, and paid tribute to the work being done at St Andrew's CE Primary.

He said: "Well done indeed to the teachers, support staff, children, parents and families who have worked so hard to achieve ‘good’ ratings from Ofsted.

“This is a positive achievement and reflects the commitment and hard work of the whole school community.

“All schools have had such a tough time over the last year in dealing with Covid and everything that has followed with precautions, pupils or staff having to isolate, learning from home and all the disruption.

“We are very proud of our schools.

“It is our ambition for every child in Bury to attend a school that is ‘good’ or better. Our school leaders and everyone at the council are all committed to improving children’s opportunities to learn and achieve.”
