EMERGENCY services were called after a crash involving a bus and a van just before midnight yesterday.

The smash happened on Jubilee Way and firefighters and police were called at 11.55pm.

One person was already out of the van as emergency services arrived and there were no passengers on the bus.

The male driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious but not life-changing injuries.

He will be summonsed to court for failing to provide a specimen.

Bury Times:

The female passenger of the van wasn't injured and there were no injuries reported on the bus.

Steve Wilcock, Watch Manager of Green Watch at Bury Fire Station, told The Bury Times: "We were mobilised to the incident at 11.55pm.

"There was oil on the carriageway and we made the scene safe.

"Police were also in attendance."

While police were dealing with the road traffic collision, they were forced to leave the scene after a van nearly collided with the police vehicle.

Traffic officers say the driver of the van reportedly "tried to ram the officer before eventually losing control on York Street, Heywood". The driver was detained after a being chased on foot.
