ARTISTS around the globe are creating first class piece of art to go on display in Bury.

Bury Art Mail has been launched to bring artists around the world together through the medium of post to collaborate on a piece of art work.

So far artists from the Netherlands to Australasia have got involved.

Bury Art Museum artists Alison Erika Forde and Lee Crocker started the project sending a concertina sketchbook through the post to different artists.

Alison said: "In a way, it’s creating an art-based pen pal circle, or a mail version of the surrealist game 'exquisite corpses,' making new art connections along the way.

“The act of receiving the concertina books and viewing other artists’s work is joyful and inspiring.”

In exquisite corpse, participants play by taking turns drawing sections of a body on a sheet of paper, folded to hide each individual contribution.

And the first 'art mailer' will artistically decorate the first pages who will then send it to the next one, who will do the same.

This creative process will continue until the concertina book is complete.

Artists have been working together this way since last spring, and this project was launched to the to mark the New Year.

The project is designed to help people connect during the pandemic and help mental wellbeing through art.

Several of the books were exhibited in October 2021 for The Big Draw Festival, which the museum has been a part of for a decade.

The Big Draw Festival is a worldwide celebration of drawing.

The Festival is made up of a collection of thousands of creative events, activities, and workshops across the globe run by organisations big and small; from individuals to entire cities.
