After a number of delays, work got underway on Bury’s new £4.2million interchange in August 1977.
The old market site was fenced off and the foundations for the road and rail interchange were being dug.
The site had been used for parking and replacement parking sites had been provided in Cecil Street and Spring Street as well as off Angouleme Way.
