After 123 years, Wellington Barracks, the Bury home of the Lancashire Fusiliers was demolished.
This photo from December 1968 shows what remained of the building as work neared completion. Bury Council had bought the 25 acre site and most of it was being cleared for housing on the Haig Road side of the site.
The adjacent sports ground was being retained as a public playing field and the rifle range was to be offered to Bury Rifle Club
