A WRITER from Prestwich is celebrating the release of his latest political thriller with a weekend of book signing events.

Michael Knaggs will appear in Bury this weekend to sign copies of The Blue Men, his fourth novel and the latest instalment of the Hotel St Kilda series.

The series, which also includes Catalyst, Heaven’s Door and Lost Souls, follows Tom Brown, an MP who exploits the death of three brutal gang members to implement his own political agenda.

Michael’s latest novel sees Tom missing and presumed dead after a series of murders, with a retired police detective on the case.

Speaking to the Bury Times last September, Michael explained that his latest novel was his favourite yet.

Michael said: “I am very pleased to have written four books that can withstand comparison with other very successful writers.

“My lifelong ambition was always to be a writer and something I finally got round to in retirement, so I’m glad I have made a success out of it.

“It all started with a short story I wrote in school which got some acclaim from the rest of the classroom and my ambition has stayed with me ever since.”

“It’s been five years since I wrote my last book, Lost Souls, and people have been asking when I plan to publish another, which is great for me to hear that people enjoyed them enough to keep on reading.

“The original trilogy got tremendous feedback and I’m really happy to revisit these characters that I am now so familiar with.”

Originally from Hull, East Yorkshire, Michael wrote his first novel, Catalyst, after retiring from a long career at the Kellogg Company, where he latterly served as it’s Human Resources Director.

Michael’s wife Carol is an artist and designs the front covers for all of Michael’s books.

Michael will sign copies of all four of his books at Costa Coffee in the Tesco Superstore, Prestwich from 10.30am on Friday, April 1.

He will also appear at Waterstones in Millgate, Bury on Saturday, April 2 from 10.30am until mid-afternoon.
