VANDALS descended on Heaton Park overnight last Sunday destroying the newly installed lakeside café pods as well as tipping out rubbish from bins and flipping over tables and chairs.
The extent of the mindless vandalism could be seen on Monday morning.
The lakeside pods were only installed last month and allowed visitors to enjoy outdoor dining.
Pictures shared to the Facebook group "The Friends of Heaton Park" caused outrage among residents.
Calls for more security to be implemented have been heavily emphasised.
On social media, one resident said: “What on earth possesses people to commit such acts of destruction?
"Unbelievable! I hope those responsible are caught & made to do unpaid work to repair what they've destroyed.”
Others reported seeing swan boats left adrift in the lake and plants being strewn across the park.
