THE MANAGER of a care home in Bury who has “truly gone above and beyond” has received a prestigious award ahead of her retirement.

Karen Davies, Home Manager of Rose Court Care Home was awarded the Gold Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Award in a virtual online ceremony last week by the Department of Health and Social Care’s Chief Nurse, Deborah Sturdy.

Karen was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of her skill, expertise, and compassion and for going above and beyond in her role to provide exceptional care, inspiration and leadership to others.

First qualifying as an Enrolled Nurse in 1984 Karen has been the registered manager at Rose Court for 16 years.

Commenting on her award win, Karen said: “I am so happy and grateful for this amazing recognition! It is a huge honour, and I am so grateful to have been nominated.

“Being a nurse gives me the opportunity to use my experience, skills and clinical judgement to support people to live their lives their way.

“It gives me the scope to enable others, to listen to peoples’ ambitions and hopes and with a skilled colleague community, fill in the gaps to enable people to live their best lives.

“Having developed Colleagues to go on to manage their own care home is the ultimate accolade of our home’s culture.”

Karen is retiring from her role as a Registered Home Manager this month and plans to attending music festivals, relaxing on the beach and travelling through Europe in the Summer.

On her return, she is looking forward to getting stuck into Foundation of Nursing Studies’ ‘Creating caring cultures’ residential programme and then continuing to find ways to use her skills and compassion to continue to make an impact in the sector and local community.
