A driver who “paid his mate to sort out his insurance for him” was stopped by police and had his car seized today.

The Renault driver was stopped on Middleton Road, just off Heaton Park by officers from Greater Manchester Police’s traffic division on Wednesday evening.

On stopping the driver, officers discovered that he did not have the proper insurance, having apparently paid a friend to deal with it for him instead.

A GMP spokesperson said: “The driver of this Renault stopped on Middleton Road paid his mate to sort out his insurance for him.

“Unfortunately, it wasn't sorted and now the vehicle has been seized and the driver faces six points and a fine.”

In response, officers have urged people to make sure that they drive insured and keep to other the rules of the road as well.

This comes after recurring concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads across Bury and around Greater Manchester as a whole with cases of speeding, drink driver and car thefts all reported by police in recent months.

Officers say that anyone with concerns about crime on the roads in their communities should call them on 101 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
