Bury has been voted in the top third of the most cycle-friendly towns, according to recent data.

As part of celebrating international bike week, which started on Monday and runs until Sunday, life insurance experts at Forbes Advisor established which towns and cities in England and Wales were the most bike friendly.

Forbes Advisor assessed the air quality data from the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), climate data from the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) and cycling pathways data from Sustrans to establish the best towns and cities.

Bury is in joint 33rd spot out of 112 with Hastings in East Sussex.

In Bury, it was found that 10.35km of routes are exclusively for cyclists.

Kevin Pratt, from Forbes Advisor, said: "Exercise, for many of us, is its own reward. It helps us feel better, and it gives us the energy and sense of well-being we need to set about our daily lives with a positive attitude.

“If you live in an area that has the spaces and facilities to enable you to get plenty of exercise, that's something to celebrate.

“But even if you aren't, you can hopefully find a safe and enjoyable walking, running or cycling route nearby that will help you stay fit and on top of your game."
