More than 150 homes in Summerseat were left without electricity this morning, Wednesday, after an electricity pylon reportedly blew up.

An electric pylon blew up on The Island in Summerseat with residents saying they heard a loud bang at around 9.40am.

No-one was hurt by the incident but 162 homes had their power cut off. A total of 88 of them had their power restored within 30 minutes, network operator Electricity North West said.

A spokesperson for Bolton North Fire Station said: “We turned out to Ramsbottom this morning as residents claimed a wooden pylon blew up.

“It came through to us as multiple explosions from a wooden pylon with a transformer on, so we made the scene safe, established cordons and left it with Electricity North West to investigate the causes.”

A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “We received reports of a power cut earlier today at 10.10am in Summerseat affecting 162 properties due to a fault on the overhead electricity network.

“Engineers responded immediately and using our automatic restoration systems, we were able to restore power to 88 properties within 30 minutes.

“Teams remain on site carrying out repair work and aim to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible to the remaining properties.”
