Borough organisation Bury Lions has relaunched a scheme where emergency services can obtain life-saving information of people in seconds.

More than 7m people in Britain keep their personal and medical details inside a "Lions Message in a Bottle".

The bottles are free and come with two stickers for the front or back door of a person’s home and another to be placed on the outside of the fridge.

The stickers help paramedics, police, firefighters and social services to be able to allocate the bottle and find medical information and details of emergency contacts via the form in within the bottle.

This simple idea means the emergency services can obtain potentially life-saving information in seconds when called to a home to provide assistance.

Bury Lions relaunched the scheme in the Bury mayor’s parlour with mayor, Cllr Shaheena Haroon, mayoress Ayesha Arif, Bury South MP Christian Wakeford, Bury North MP James Daly, representatives from Bury Ambulance Service and Community Fire Station, NHS Clinical Commissioning Group together with members of the club and several community groups.

Andrew Taylo, of Greater Manchester Neighbourhood Watch, said: “I fully support the Lions Message in a Bottle scheme relaunch which has helped many people over the years.”

Bury Lions has provided a free supply of Lions Message in a Bottles at the following outlets for members of the public to collect.

They are available at Age UK Bury The Jubilee Centre, Asda Pilsworth Pharmacy, Cohens Chemist Tottington, Bury Homecare Tottington, Fairfield Hospital Outpatients entrance, Millercare Bury, Moorgate Health Centre first floor, Ramsbottom Health Centre, Shopmobility Millgate Shopping Centre, Strachans Chemist, Tesco Bury Pharmacy and Tottington Health Centre.
