A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being attacked in Ramsbottom.

Police were called to Bridge Street following a report of an assault at 10.06pm last night, Saturday.

Officers attended the scene and located a man in his 40s with head injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, of Greater Manchester Police's Bury CID, said: “This incident has left a man with some very serious injuries and we need to locate the person who has done this.

“Following initial enquiries the unknown offender has been described to us as a white male, aged around 20, of a slim build, 5ft 10ins tall and with blond hair.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone with information, is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8078 quoting log 3,420 of August 6.
