A borough town has been named in one of the top five UK places to retire in a report.

Ramsbottom has been picked out as the fourth best town for older people to retire to in the UK according to recent data from personal alarm provider TakingCare Personal Alarms.

The number one location deemed as the best place to retire to was Llandudno, followed by Glossop, Southport, Ramsbottom and Saffron Walden.

Manchester was also named as the tenth best city for retirement amenities

Home safety expert at TakingCare, Louise Yasities, said: “As we get older, we find new things become more important to us.

“Moving somewhere that is not only a fantastic place to live but will also provide the services needed to look after you as you get older is crucial for the 65 plus age demographic.

“We’ve crunched the numbers to evaluate these considerations and have developed this list of the best places in the UK for people to retire to; from bingo halls to the number of care homes for every older person, we’ve left no stone unturned to find the best destinations for our older population.

“As average life expectancy increases, it’s more important than ever to empower older people to live happily and independently at home for as long as possible, and the data points we’ve analysed in this report address these.”

The analysis judged average life expectancy, house prices and annual care costs.

A cumulative lifestyle score was also used based on the total green spaces, English Heritage sites, fish and chip shops and bingo halls.
