A 38-year-old man has died after a crash in Blackrod.

Police were called to the scene of a collision between two cars on Chorley Road at 10:25pm last night, Friday.

Emergency services were called to the scene but the 38-year-old driver of a Seat Leon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two others, in a BMW, have suffered minor injuries.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

PC Becky Hall, of Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating incident – particularly the family of the man who sadly lost his life, and we are doing all we can to support them at this awful time.

“We’re working to piece together the circumstances behind this incident and will be conducting a full and thorough investigation to ensure that no stone is left unturned to establish exactly what has happened here.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area on Friday evening – or who may have footage from around that time that could end up being crucial to this investigation.”

Staff members from The Cherry Tree, on Chorley Road, are said to have run outside with fire extinguishers after hearing a loud bang.

The road outside the pub up to Blackrod Brow has been closed both ways as police carried out investigation work.

Specialist officers have been deployed to support his family at this devastating time.

GMP’s SCIU are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the two cars driving in the Blackrod area to get in touch to help their investigation.
