Prestwich Arts Festival will return later this month boasting a line-up full of creative talent.

The festival, which returns for its fourth year, will bring its biggest ever line up of events and activities to the community on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25.

The volunteer-led event aims to bring the joy of arts to as many people as possible in the village and to celebrate talent and creativity of the diverse community, while bringing people together to have fun.

This year’s festival includes art workshops, exhibitions, and literature readings, with many of the events being completely free of charge.

Family fun comes in the form of Professor Jiggett’s Storytelling Suitcases at St Mary’s Flower Park, We Be Kids nature crafts at Philips Park, and Little Green Artists at Heaton Park Stables.

A walking tour of Mark E Smith’s Prestwich is back by popular demand, learning from superfan Rob Carroll about how the late singer-songwriter from post-punk band the Fall often wrote about the people and places right on his doorstep.

The closing event at this year’s line-up is a screening of Do You Own the Dancefloor?, a documentary about the iconic Hacienda nighhtclub in Manchester, followed by a Q&A session with director Chris Hughes.

The festival will also feature local author Adam Farrer talking about his new book Cold Fish Soup and poet Simon Zonenblick reading from his new collection, An Invertebrate Fable, inspired by Prestwich Clough.

Exhibitions this year include Bradley Brook outdoor photography by Tristan Poyser and Eyewitnesses Say exhibition and workshop from artist Bob Nutts Jr, which looks at the stories and people featured in the Prestwich and Whitefield Guide.

The ever-popular Home is Where the Art Is community art trail also returns this year, where residents’ windows, gardens and front yards are transformed into an art gallery.

This year’s theme is "Green Prestwich" launched in partnership with Prestwich Environmental Forum.

Chair of Prestwich Arts Festival, Jane Thomson, said: “We’re delighted to be back once again with another packed line-up of events for 2022.

“Our volunteer team have created one of the biggest programmes yet and there really is something for everyone - whether you want to learn a new skill, try out a new talent or just come together with friends old and new to enjoy some of our local creative talent.

“We can’t wait to see everyone again this September.”
