A former Bury College student has secured a place on a highly competitive university course.

Nicola Brown, 34, who carried out an Access to Higher Education course at the college, has been accepted onto the BSc Midwifery course at the University of Salford.

Nicola credited her Access to Nursing, Midwifery and Health course for helping her develop a passion for a new subject area.

She said: “The best decision I made was leaving full-time employment and returning to college as a mature student here at Bury College.

“I successfully completed my Access course with straight distinctions, which I could not have done without the support and guidance from my tutors.

“With their knowledge, experience, professionalism and understanding, I found a new love for learning and understanding for subjects that I never thought I had.”

Lianne Livesey, team leader for Access and Education at Bury College, added: “The BSc in Midwifery can be such a difficult course to get on to so for Nicola to achieve this is a remarkable achievement.

“The very best of luck to Nicola on her next steps. We can’t wait to hear about her future successes.”
