A well known Bury town centre pub is rolling out a £1 idea to help provide the community with healthy and nutritious meals during the cost-of-living crisis.

The Two Tubs on The Wylde have cooked up "OnePots", which will be open to all who are interested from Saturday, October 1 until the food runs out.

Leah Towers, General Manager and Licensee of Two Tubs, said: “As the name states, the meals will be classic “one-pot” home comforts such as chicken stew, corned beef hash (etc).

“This lasts from open until close, or when the food runs out and we will be serving a new special every day at £1 per portion.

“This is open to absolutely everyone, in aid of the cost-of-living crisis.”

With no end date in mind, the business has said that if popular and they don’t see a surplus of food wastage, "OnePots" could continue indefinitely.

Leah added: “We are doing this to ensure that our local community aren’t going without healthy, nutritious meals and people have a safe, warm place to go out this winter, without worrying about the cost of heating.

“We also want to prevent the detrimental mental health effects of isolating one’s self, and enable people to still be social.”

The initial recipe costs vary from dish to dish ranging from 52p-97p per portion however, with the cost of utilities for creating these dishes, the pub will not be making any profits.

The cheaper prices will be hit by buying in bulk and Leah added that she will create new food dishes that fit within this rough range to ensure a good variety of meals.

Leah said: "The standard gross profit margins for food in hospitality are 65-70%.

"At the price of £1 - yes our costs are covered as there are no labour costs to factor in or profits to be made, many of our meals that are towards the higher cost range actually have a negative gross profit margin."

Leah shared that the pub’s demographic research shows, around 98 per cent of those who live within 500m of The Two Tubs are of very low income.

She added that with the proximity to the town centre comes higher rental prices, in addition to the rising food and utility costs and they hope that "OnePots" means anyone struggling can still have healthy and nutritious meals.
