A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with spinal injuries after being rescued from a car following a crash on Monday night.

The crash between two cars happened at 6pm on Monday at the junction of Newcombe Road and Longsight Road in Holcombe Brook, Bury.

Two fire engines, a police van and an ambulance were in attendance.

Firefighters used equipment to guide the woman to safety before she was taken to hospital.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 6pm on Monday, firefighters were called out to a road traffic collision at the junction of Newcombe Road and Longsight Road in Holcombe Brook.

“Two fire engines from Bolton North and Ramsbottom attend the incident where two vehicles had collided.

“Firefighters used stabilisation equipment to assist North West Ambulance Service in extricating a casualty from one of the vehicles who was suffering with spinal injuries – they were taken to North Manchester General Hospital for treatment.

“Crews were detained for almost two hours.”

North West Ambulance Service confirmed that they treated a patient and paramedics did not leave the scene until just after 8pm.

An eyewitness said: “There was a car on Longsight Road with the front bonnet smashed in.

“There were two fire engines which had cordoned off part of Newcombe Road where firefighters were helping out the driver of the other car. It looked quite serious.”

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for a comment.
