A Prestwich organisation has been chosen to receive a tree from the late Queen’s Green Canopy.

Jewish social care charity, The Fed, is becoming part of a living legacy to honour Her Late Majesty which will be planted at their five-acre grounds in Heathlands Village.

The charity is being presented with a tree from the late Queen’s Green Canopy  “Tree of Trees”, as a ‘thank you’ for their valuable and tireless work.

Mark Cunningham, CEO of The Fed, said: “This is an unbelievable honour.

"We are over the moon that The Fed has been selected to continue to honour the Queen’s memory in this way.”

The tree will be presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Mrs Diane Hawkins, JP, LLB and will be planted on the five-acre grounds of the charity’s headquarters at Heathlands Village later this autumn.

Mark added: “The gift is especially appropriate as it comes at a time when we are developing our 'Heathlands in Bloom' project which gets the people living at Heathlands regularly involved in gardening and benefiting from being outdoors, active and socialising.

“Those who live, work or volunteer at Heathlands Village will be thrilled to help nurture this wonderful reminder of our much-loved monarch, and be able to continue to honour her extraordinary service to her country and her people.”

The Jewish social care charity is among more than 300 UK-wide inspiring organisations which will be presented with a tree.

The trees are being gifted evenly across the UK in proportion to the population, with each county receiving at least one tree.

They are a "thank you" to each recipient organisation for the valuable and tireless work undertaken for the benefit of their communities, and at the same time “celebrate the diverse communities that come together for the benefit of all, often using the natural environment to improve health and wellbeing”.
