A leaf art competition is offering the winning children or school class an aerial adventure at an award-winning facility at Heaton Park.

The leaf competition, which is now in its fifth year, is being spearheaded by Treetop Manchester at the Prestwich park and is all about getting more children outdoors and enjoying the autumn colours.

The contest has two award categories, school groups and individuals.

The winners will get an aerial adventure in the trees at the site.

School groups have the chance to enter their giant leaf pictures and win a trip to Treetop Nets for their entire class of up to 30 people, including supervising staff.

Sarah Case, from Treetop Manchester, said: “The Leaf Art competition is our way of getting kids out in the autumn months, enjoying the fresh air and appreciating the magnificent autumn colour.

“Our previous competitions have generated some fantastic entries, with children collecting an array of leaves, twigs and even acorns for their leafy creations.

This year we’re thrilled to be welcoming Caroline Daly as a guest judge, casting an expert eye over the entries.

“We’re looking for simple, yet clever ideas which make us smile instantly. We know the children won’t disappoint!”

The winning school group will also get a lantern workshop for the class run by guest judge and Manchester artist Caroline Daly.

Artist Caroline says she is greatly inspired by local wildlife and tries to work in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

She is also a regular arts facilitator, working with young people and community groups throughout Greater Manchester.

Speaking about the competition she said: “There’s nothing better than getting creative and being surrounded by nature.

“It’s so important for children and young people to spend time in nature and take part in creative activities, it boosts moods, promotes confidence, helps with problem-solving skills, communication, general health and well-being and more importantly, it’s loads of fun!

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be asked to judge this wonderful competition and I can’t wait to see the entries and work with the winning school.”
