A shopping centre in Bury is celebrating after winning a series of awards in a week.

Mill Gate Shopping Centre scooped five accolates in a week, including two from the "Sceptre Awards" and three from the "Green Apple Awards".

The "Sceptre Awards", held on Wednesday, November 16, recognise the best practice and achievements from people in the Shopping Centre industry and awarded Mill Gate with the Innovation of the Year Award with the "Tik Tok Turf" project.

The project transformed a formerly empty unit space into an area where "Tik-Tokers" could create their own video content last year.

During the six-week period over 5,000 people used the space to create engaging and creative TikTok and other social media content.

In 1994, the Green Apple Awards began to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice. They are an independent, international, non-profit, non-political environment membership group.

Mill Gate Shopping Centre won three different awards at the ceremony held at the Houses of Parliament- Energy Consumption Saving Scheme, Carbon Reduction and Environmental Best Practice.

To win the awards, the judges rate the environmental project out of ten on the following criteria: environmental benefit, innovation, commitment to achieve by senior personnel involved, social benefit, economic benefit, quantitative evidence of impact, future further development plans and possible adoption by others.

The judges have the flexibility to award up to ten additional bonus points for entries they believe have particular merit.

Mill Gate’s centre manager, Kirsty Williams, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have been honoured in so many aspects over the last week!

“Our incredible Tik Tok Turf has been a huge success and it’s so great to see it, and our very own Graham honoured in this year's Sceptre Awards.

“We are also so proud of all of our environmental achievements and will continue to push forward with all of our environmental endeavours within the shopping centre!”
