With the 2022 FIFA World Cup approaching the end of the group stages, Bury has been revealed as one of the most successful birthplaces of England internationals.

According to recent research conducted by Barratt Homes, the research revealed that Bury is the birthplace of five England footballers that have earned 193 caps, the ninth most of any town or city.

The five players are Gary Neville with 85 caps, Phil Neville with 59 caps, Kieran Trippier with 37 caps, Colin McDonald with eight caps and Alec Lindsay with four caps.

Notably, Kieran Trippier is part of the current England squad in Qatar whereas the rest of the players have since retired.

Phil Neville played for England 59 times between 1996 and 2007 and his brother Gary made his international debut in 1995 and was first-choice right-back for England for more than 10 years, representing the country at three European Championships and two World Cups.

He is England's most-capped right-back with 85 caps.

Colin McDonald is a former goalkeeper and played eight matches for the England national football team, including all four matches in the 1958 FIFA World Cup.

Alec Lindsay played for England in 1974.

Bury also ranks joint eighth for the most hometown heroes that have gone to a World Cup with England.
