Bury’s MPs received almost £20,000 in gifts and donations last year, figures have shown.

According to the official Parliamentary Register of Members' Financial Interests, a system used by MPs to declare earnings on top of their salary, Bury North MP James Daly received £17,235 in gifts and extra earnings while Bury South representative Christian Wakeford amassed a value of £2,411

The Conservative MP for Bury North made the most extra income, gifts and donations last year out of the two borough MPs.

The largest declared interests were both £5,000 donations from The Carlton Club Political Committee and telecommunications infrastructure provider IX Wireless Ltd.

A private donation of £2,000 was also declared too.

Three lots of £225 were made by Ipsos MORI for surveys and £500 was made from The Sun/News UK for an article.

Additionally, Mr Daly received two tickets with hospitality to horseracing at Cheltenham worth £660, two tickets with hospitality for the football Championship Play Off Final at Wembley worth £500, and two tickets with hospitality for golf tournament The Open at St Andrews worth £900.

Christian Wakeford (total: £2,411)

The Labour MP for Bury South made just under £2,500 last year in extra income, gifts and donations last year.

He received one ticket with hospitality for a Manchester United v Liverpool football match at Old Trafford worth £500.

Mr Wakeford was also given flights and hotel accommodation to Kyiv in Ukraine to attend and speak at International Holocaust Remembrance Day at Babyn Yar, amounting to a value of £412.

He was also given flights, accommodation and meals for a Holocaust education visit to Poland.

And the politician had visits to museums, historical sites and cultural centres and attended the March of the Living 2022, which had a total value of £1,499.
