A family from Bury has been left devastated for a second time after masked burglars stole £28,000 worth of motorbikes while they were on holiday.

Kelly and Darren Skillin and their children Frank, 18, and Isobelle, 19, were away in Canada when criminals struck at their Walmersley Road home in the early hours of Saturday, January 14

CCTV footage caught the balaclava-wearing burglars in the act before sticking their fingers up to the camera and racing away with three of their motorbikes.

Kelly said: “Eight years ago when we lived in Brandlesholme the same thing happened, and I thought we had learnt our lesson.

“We have CCTV, we moved house and locked and barricaded the door to where the vehicles are but they still broke in and stole £28,000 worth of bikes.”

She said the past few weeks have been a nightmare as their luggage went missing on holiday and their house flooded on the same day as the burglary.

Frank’s girlfriend was staying at the house on the night of the incident and went downstairs after hearing a noise at 2am.

Kelly said: “She was on the phone with my son when she mentioned hearing a noise.

“We didn’t think anything of it because it could have been our dog or our nephew coming back home.

“When we have looked back at the CCTV, as soon as she goes downstairs, the burglars outside all hide when the light comes on.”

The group stayed hidden for almost 10 minutes until she went back upstairs.

They arrived at 12.27am and left the property at 2.20am in the direction of Bury.

Darren said his wife has spent almost 40 hours looking through the footage from the night and he is now unable to race at an event this weekend.

The family hope that the bikes can be recovered and have appealed to anyone on social media to keep an eye out for similar bikes being sold.

Kelly says she is also offering a £5,000 reward to anyone who can return the white, the green and black KTM, a red GASGAS and the blue and white Husqvarna bikes.
