A MAN who assaulted a nightclub bouncer and a police officer was told he was "a silly boy" in court.

Joshua Murray, 20, of Launceston Road, Radcliffe, had previously pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to assaulting the emergency worker, while changing his plea on the day of trial to the charge of assault by beating on the nightclub bouncer.

He was sentenced to a community order.

Prosecuting, Claire Oliver said it was 1.50am on October 16, 2022 when police were called to an incident at a Chester nightclub where a security guard had been assaulted.

Murray had refused to leave the nightclub and was ejected from the premises, the court heard. Murray then punched the bouncer with a closed fist to the left eye, resulting in a bruise.

Murray was later arrested and taken to custody, but was transferred to hospital due to concerns over his safety at 4am.

The defendant later became agitated and a police officer attempted to put him in handcuffs.

Murray "refused to comply" and "lunged" towards the officer in what was perceived to be an attempted headbutt, swinging at the officer and verbally abusing him.

He had no previous convictions.

A pe-sentence report heard Murray was "ashamed of his actions", was "extremely remorseful" and the incidents were "out of character".

Chair of magistrates Jill Kirkbride-Wright told Murray: "You've been a silly boy, haven't you? Bet your mum's proud."

Murray replied: "Not really."

Ms Kirkbride-Wright replied: "No, I wouldn't be.

"From now on you're going to behave when you go to nightclubs, don't drink too much.

"These people are only doing their job."

Murray was sentenced to a 12-month community order, to carry out 130 hours unpaid work.

He must pay £125 compensation to the bouncer, plus £120 court costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
