Bury police are advising residents to check and improve their locks to keep their homes safe.
The Bury Crime Prevention team has published five points of advice to residents to keep themselves and their properties safe by improving their security.
Firstly, officers recommend upgrading any Euro cylinder locks to an anti-snap cylinder.
The anti-snap locks are designed to protect against lock snapping, where a thief would break the lock into two parts.
Residents looking to upgrade their lock to "anti-snap" should ensure it has a three-star rating under TS 007 and or the Sold Secure Diamond Standard.
Secondly, residents are being urged to consider improving their door handles or replacing them with one that is two-star rated under TS 007.
Greater Manchester Police added that to improve security, a reputable lock replacement company should be used, preferably with Master Locksmiths Association accreditation.
Sash jammers can also be fitted which attach near the window or door frame and pivot over the door or window securing it into place, offering another level of security that can help prevent forced entry.
Officers added that before fitting a jammer, to check it won't invalidate any warranty on an existing door.
Finally, it has been recommended that additional locks are fitted to any existing patios or French doors to increase security.
