An ‘extreme weather warning’ has gone out in Bury and across Greater Manchester with ‘heavy’ snowfall predicted.

This comes with an amber warning having been issued by the Met Office, meaning that heavy snow is expected from Thursday afternoon into Friday warning.

The snow could cause significant disruption on the roads.

A statement from Transport for Greater Manchester said: “Extreme weather warnings!

“Heavy snowfall is expected through today and tomorrow!

“Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.

“Wrap up warm!

The warning is in place between 7am to 2pm on Thursday and Friday.

Snow has been predicted to begin falling in Bury from 7am onwards before getting heavier later in the day.

The most extreme snow is expected to fall between 3pm on Thursday and 12pm on Friday, affecting much of Greater Manchester and the wider North West region.

Lighter snow had already fallen across the centre of Bolton on Wednesday.

The Met Office has warned people to expect travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers as well as some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel.
