The organiser of Bury Pride says this year’s celebration will have ‘something for everyone’ ahead of its return later this month.

Bury Pride 2023 will be held at the Elizabethan Suite at Bury Town Hall at the end of April boasting an exciting line-up of local acts and host Aunty Ginger from the House of Bridget.

Organisers have already announced the full-line up of talent appearing throughout the day and have revealed the celebrations will be headlined by Singer and X-factor star Sam Bailey.

Having increased the number of acts this year, performances will take place on the main stage or one of two indoor stages.

The event will also see revellers traverse through the streets of the town as part of the Bury Pride Walking Rainbow.

Musician Jsky will be leading the parade.

Event organiser David Catterall says a great selection of charities and businesses have given the event their support this year, including Davenports Printers, Bury Council and The Proud Trust who support LGBT+ young people in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

He said: “We’re just really glad that we’ve got the local business community supporting and celebrating with us as well as the charities that come along.

“We’ve got the Walking Rainbow parade, last year it was the biggest we’ve ever seen and we’re hoping that we’ll increase upon that, and that’s kind of the cornerstone of the event, it where it began all those years ago.”

David says organisers have doubled the number of events and have been working with The House of Bridget to put together a event which is “really diverse and really different".

He continued: “I think that’s something that’s changing and has just got bigger.

“We’re really pushing to make sure that everyone’s involved, it’s an event for everyone.”

David says the event, which has been an annual fixture in the town since 2017, remains an important means of showing strength and solidarity among and LGBTQI community and their allies.

He continued: “We’re seeing a lot of rhetoric against trans people, we’re seeing hate crime increasing towards the LGBTQI community as well as other communities local to Bury.

“Bury Pride, although it is an LGBTQI-led event it’s very much there for the whole of the community to represent what’s in Bury and to make sure we’re celebrating our differences and celebrating that the more richness we have in our communities the better our communities will be.”

Bury Pride 2023 takes place on Saturday, April 29 from 10am-6pm. Further information and tickets can be purchased on the event website.
