Organisers of a garden party for the King's coronation hope to “give the people of Bury the chance to come together” during the Big Help Out this bank holiday.

A special garden party to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III will be held in Bury at the Gallipoli Garden outside the Fusiliers Museum, and on neighbouring streets including Moss and Silver Street, from 10am to 4pm on Monday, May 8.

The event will be hosted by the team at the museum in partnership with Olives Kitchen and the council who hope to “shine a spotlight” on community organisations in Bury.

Speaking about the party, the Deputy Lieutenant for Bury, David Catterall, said: “We’re delighted to be organising this event with partners across the town to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and to give the people of Bury the chance to come together on this momentous occasion.

“It’s also a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on the wonderful community organisations and charities that we have in Bury and to encourage as many people as possible to volunteer with them to make a difference.”

The Fusilier Museum will be open and offering free entry to all throughout the day and there will be over 25 stalls including a bar, barbecue, face painting, games and music.

There will also be representation from local community organisations and charities including Bury Hospice, Annabelle’s Challenge, The Attic Project, Rotary Club and Bury Active Women’s Centre.

Diane Hawkins, Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester, and the official representative for his majesty the King will officially open the event at 10am.

The day coincides with The Big Help Out, a national scheme as part of the coronation celebrations to encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and to join the great work being undertaken in local areas.

Representatives from Bury organisations will also be on hand throughout the day to talk about volunteering opportunities and hopefully create a lasting legacy from the weekend’s events.
