Plans to open a new wine and tapas bar in Whitefield could get the go ahead later this week.

The new bar, called Nova Wine and Tapas, could open up on Radcliffe New Road in place of the now closed Nutri Grains Kitchen.

The bar would provide evening and late-night entertainment with opening hours starting from 5pm until late.

New openings are required to state how they will fulfil four licensing objectives which seek to ensure the safety of the public and the reduction of anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area.

Licensing officer for Bury, PC Peter Eccleston, has asked the council’s licencing hearing sub-committee to ensure the bar adheres to several conditions should it be granted a licence to trade, including the prevention of crime and disorder and protection of children from harm.

The licence holder must also ensure they prevent public nuisance and ensure public safety.

Following public consultation, the new bar received one complaint from a nearby resident who expressed concerns about the potential noise generated by the bar.

The resident said they were "extremely troubled" that the bar, which would sit alongside several other businesses in the area, could be granted a licence to serve alcohol and play recorded music until 1am on the weekend.

The resident added the bar would add to "an existing problem of anti-social behaviour and noise pollution which is spiralling out of control" in the area.

However, the applicant has stated that they will ensure a "comprehensive" CCTV system is in place and that any footage requested by the police will be handed over.

The application is set to be decided by the sub-committee on Friday.
