A Walmersley pub has been gifted a life-saving piece of equipment by a security company wanting to “give back to the community”.

The Sundial Pub on Walmersley Road has been presented with a defibrillator after it reopened its doors on March 31.

Having temporarily closed on New Year's Day after the former landlords decided to leave, the pub is back up and running with the new piece of safety equipment.

Owner of Tungsten Service Group, Zach Redford and co-owner Liam Howarth, donated the defibrillator after noticing that area of Walmersley was missing one.

Liam said: “Through extra profits from our security company, we have been buying and donating defibrillators to areas of Bury that need them.

“This will be the third we have donated, as one went to Gigg Lane, and another to mum Tammie Wakefield, whose son had a cardiac episode last year.”

Tammie found her son, Ben, 20, had been diagnosed with a condition, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which causes the heart to beat abnormally fast.

Ben was saved by a defibrillator device and Tammie began to fundraise to install one on their street, Stan Lane, when Liam stepped in to help.

He said: “I know people who have used defibs to save lives and had their lives saved by one, it really is such an important piece of equipment to have.”

He added that it is “nice to give back” but fundraising will soon begin to buy the box that stores the defib outside of the pub.

He said: “At the moment, it is inside the Sundial for anyone to use if it is needed.

“The storage boxes are quite expensive, so we are looking to raise some money to get that installed on the outside of the pub.”
