A breakfast food commonly seen in the States has made its way on to the menu of a pub, which was voted the best in Bury South.

The Goats Gate in Whitefield has added a USA inspired breakfast inspired pizza and it is  believed to be one of the first of its kind on a pub menu.

Manchester brewery, Joseph Holt, has introduced a `waffle, bacon and maple` option on its new stone baked pizza menu, with the Goats Gate serving up the item.

The new dish brings together crispy sweet waffle chunks and tangy smoked streaky bacon alongside the traditional pizza staple ingredients of tomato and mozzarella.

All of which is finished with a caramelized drizzle of maple syrup.

The pizza aptly launched on July 4.

Also new on the pizza menu are slow cooked tender beef brisket with gherkins, sweet potato and falafel and lamb kofta with a mint yoghurt drizzle.

Brendan Corder, food operations manager for Joseph Holt said: “Pizza is such a popular choice with our customers and we`re always looking for new ways to provide variety for these dishes.

“The waffle, bacon and maple pizza dish up the comfort and familiarity of waffles and bacon, whilst balancing the tangy tomato sauce with the natural sweetness of maple syrup.

“We always try to give customers choice on all our menus and our pizza menu is no different.”

Pizza ovens have become a popular addition to Joseph Holt food houses with over 14,000 pizzas made last year at the Goats Gate alone.

Brendan added: “Since introducing our in-house oven baked pizzas, customers have really enjoyed the choice of these freshly baked dishes along with more traditional varieties.

“We`re always open to new ideas and we're sure our new range of oven-baked pizzas will be hugely popular.”

The Goats Gate pub was voted as the best pub in Bury South for the second year in a row this year.

The award was announced by MP Christian Wakeford on March 14 where they beat a total of nine other pubs which were shortlisted for the award.
