An ongoing investigation into the death of a Bury woman who suffered horrific burns has been halted once again.

Nosheen Akhtar, also known as Sarah Hussain, died from her injuries aged just 31 on July 24, 2021, a day after she was seen running from her home on East Street while on fire.

An inquest into her death briefly resumed at Rochdale Coroners Court this week before being adjourned to allow the Crown Prosecution Service to review evidence and transcripts.

Coroner Lisa Judge said: "The police wish to be in a position to assess all matters.

She added: "These transcripts can now be shared with the police."

Ms Hussain died at Wythenshawe Hospital after suffering burns to 81 per cent of her body.

The inquest into her death, which began in February this year, was first halted by Ms Judge, assistant coroner for Manchester North, to allow police body camera footage from the day of the incident to be secured and enhanced for use as evidence.

Throughout proceedings the court heard conflicting accounts of what Sarah told witnesses about what had happened to her.

At the time, Ms Judge told the court "I need to be in a position to assess fully what she did or didn't say" to emergency services during the incident.

Following this week's resumed hearing, the CPS and Greater Manchester Police will review this footage and associated transcripts.

They will also review recordings of evidence provided earlier in proceedings, including witness statements provided by Sarah’s husband, Waqas Mahmood.

The coroner told the court that while no criminal charges were brought in connection to Ms Hussain’s death, she said the CPS had not considered the evidence which has since come to light during inquest proceedings.

The hearing is expected to resume in August.
