A Bury-born soap star is the latest celebrity to be confirmed to appear on BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach has been named to feature on the 2023 line-up on BBC Breakfast this morning, Wednesday.

The 22-year-old will be joining the other contestants on the BBC show that we know of so far, such as Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, former newsreader Angela Rippon, stage and screen star Layton Williams, from Bury, Channel 4 journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy and comedian Eddie Kadi.

But it doesn’t end there, as Irish presenter Angela Scanlon, Love Island’s Zara McDermott, Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas and BBC radio presenter Nikita Kanda are also taking part.

Ellie who is the cousin of Corrie's Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) said: "It still doesn’t feel real that I’m going to be doing Strictly!! It’s always been a dream of mine so I guess dreams really do come true!!!!"

Who is Strictly contestant Ellie Leach?

Ellie is best known for portraying Faye Windass for 12 years on Coronation Street.

She was nominated for multiple British Soap Awards and Inside Soap Awards.

Her hard-hitting storylines included being pregnant at 13, discovering she was going through menopause and reconnecting with the child she gave up - which led to her departing the cobbles earlier this year.

Netflix's Heartstopper star Joe Locke has asked fans to respect his 'limits'

Prior to Coronation Street, Ellie appeared in the independent movie A Boy Called Dad and the drama Moving On.

Strictly is produced by BBC Studios and will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its new series this autumn, once again bringing glitter, glamour and glorious dancing to homes across the nation.

The remaining celebrity contestants joining the new series will be announced in due course.
