A house fire broke out in Bury last night, Monday, with the cause of the blaze being investigated.  

The fire broke out in the front room of a terraced house on Parkhills Road at around 8.15pm.

Firefighters from Whitefield Fire Station led the response with crew members from Bury Fire Station also arriving.

Police also attended the road was cordoned off.

No injuries were reported and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's investigation team is working to determine the cause of the fire, which was contained in the front room.

Fire crew members left at around 11.30pm.

Crew manager Geoff Wild at Bury Fire Station said: "It was a house fire in the front room of a terraced house.

"Four people using breathing apparatus were sent in.

"Three fire engines were there and police were there.

"Everybody got out safely before we arrived. The neighbours evacuated before fire service got there too.

"We brought the fire under control fairly quickly, the fire stayed in the front room."

He added: "It is not yet believed to be deliberate, but we can't rule it out. We arrived at around 8.15pm and were there until around 11.30pm.

"Police have stayed there throughout the night and the fire investigation team are going to be looking at it this morning.

"We also had to shut the road."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed that police were present, arriving at around 8.30pm last night.

The force has been unable to confirm whether the fire is being treated as deliberate as of yet.

Cllr Tamoor Tariq, who represents Redvales ward, said last night on social media: "I’m saddened to report there has been yet again another unfortunate incident in our neighbourhood.

"Please allow extra time to travel between Heywood Street and Parkhills Road. Prayers with those affected."
