A fire broke out at a former pub in Heywood this morning, Thursday.

The blaze happened at around 5am at the former site of The Heywood on Tower Street, which is now unoccupied and derelict.

Firefighters from Bury were joined by crews from Heywood and Rochdale who spent seven hours tackling the blaze, which involved timber from the building.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire has not been published.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 5am on Thursday, three fire engines from Bury, Heywood and Rochdale stations were called to reports of a fire at a derelict building on Tower Street, Heywood.

“The fire involved a quantity of timber. Firefighters used four hose reels, jets and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

"Crews were in attendance for just over seven hours.”

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
