A dad from Bury will be scaling some of the talling buildings in London this weekend for a pregnancy baby loss charity to help a close cause.

Dean Zweck, 41, will be part of a world first this weekend as he takes part in the London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge 2023 today, Saturday, and Sunday.

There will be around 850 participants doing a tower run up 42 floors of The Cheesegrater building, also known as the Leadenhall Building, before a 200-metre abseil down or zip wire from the roof across London’s skyline and into The Gherkin.

Dean, who is taking on the challenge for Tommy’s, the UK’s largest pregnancy baby loss charity, said: “To be able to raise money for Tommy’s to help other families reduce the pain that we went through, is an honour.

“I can’t possibly endure what a female goes through in IVF or the full pain of miscarriage, but I hope through pushing my own body to complete this challenge I can raise money to support others on their journey.”

Dean and his wife underwent multiple rounds of IVF until they were successful, and the birth of their child has “transformed” the couple’s lives “immeasurably”.

He added that although they finally got the fairytale ending that they longed for, he is painfully aware that not everyone has experienced this ending, motivating him to share his story by participating in the challenge to spread a message of hope.

So far, Dean is more than halfway to reaching his fundraising target of £1,000 and has been training in preparation for the event.

The tower run consists of 1096 steps and the challenge is a 100 per cent not-for-profit event created by Tommy’s to raise more than £1m for itself and other charities.
