Police have issued a warning after youths have been caught on camera throwing fireworks at each other in Bury town centre.

Footage of groups of youngsters throwing fireworks at each other outside the McDonald's restaurant on The Rock has been passed to officers.

Police are now working with schools to identify those who have been involved in the incidents.

It is an offence to possess a firework of under the age of 18 or throw one firework in a public place.

Officers said they will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to these incidents and will be speaking to all youths identified at the police station in due course.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Bury said: “It has come to our attention that we have a number of youths throwing fireworks in and around Bury town centre.

“We have obtained footage of incidents where groups of youths have been throwing fireworks at each other outside McDonald's on The Rock putting not only themselves but, more importantly, members of the public at serious risk of injury.

“We are working with the local schools in identifying these youths.

“We are asking our local community if they have any information as to where these youths are obtaining the fireworks.

“Whether it be a local shop, a factory or family members.

“If you wish to provide any information you can do this via GMP's online reporting system, Crimestoppers or via Trading Standards, this can be done anonymously if you do not wish to give your details.

“This is a summary only offence - which means police can charge for this offence.”
