A part of Bolton has been placed on a flooding alert.

A total of 108 warnings have been put in place across the UK due to heavy rain.

And one of these concerns the River Irwell at Prestolee and Ringley Bridges.

Areas believed to be at risk from flooding include Riverside Drive, Hamble Croft, Langcliffe Place, Ribblehead Court and Stoneclough Rise.

Bolton is one of the areas to be subject to this warning with Radcliffe having areas close to the river.

Data from this morning, Tuesday, shows the height of the water at the River Irwell is presently 3.67 metres.

Its normal range is 0.67 to 4.05 but it peaked above this at 4.71 in the early hours of this morning.

An update is expected from the Environmental Agency at 11am.

A spokesperson said: "Further rainfall is forecast this afternoon.

"We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

"We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this warning if necessary.

"Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water."

A similar warning was issued last month.
