A Bury gym has been transformed after a £500,000 renovation with many praising the "amazing" renovation work.

The Stables Country Club, situated off Walshaw Road, has reopened after a huge revamp, much to the delight of its members.

The club has been redesigned with equipment being installed by Life Fitness.

Space has also been utilised to create a ladies-only section as well as an abdominals area, while the free weights area has also been enhanced.

The club is locally owned by Sarah Kiernan and run by her daughter Abi Sikorski, who says the club was “born in Bury, bred in Bury for the people of Bury”.

The site was originally an old stable block and the original stable partitions remain in part of the gym area to create small workout rooms.

Jonathan Butterworth, managing director at Lavender Hotels, of whose portfolio the gym is part of, said: “The reaction to the renovations has been overwhelming.

“We had a huge party to celebrate the opening when Bob and Barbara Shepherd reopened the club due to them being members since we opened in 1995.

“Countless people have commented on what an amazing job the designers have done.

The leisure club is also home to two large indoor heated pools, a hot tub, a swim-in Jacuzzi, saunas, a steam room and an ice-cold plunge pool.
