Writing in a Facebook post, a Bury police spokesperson said: " Officers stopped a suspicious vehicle; the sole occupant made off, fleeing on foot. After a foot pursuit, the male was detained and arrested.

"The offender is a well-known member of an organised crime group in Bury and was already on crown court bail for possession of drugs with intent to supply.

"Officers conducted a thorough area search and located over £50,000 cash in a wheelie bin that had been hidden by the offender.

The offender was arrested for drug supply, money laundering and driving offences - the offender has also breached his crown court bail.

"Two vehicles and the cash have been seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and the offender remains in police custody awaiting an interview."

Chief Inspector Michael Barton said: “This was a great result by GMP’s response officers in Bury overnight. I hope it demonstrates some of the fantastic proactive work our officers do to keep our communities safe from drug-related crime.”
