Thrill-seekers will be convening at Woodbank Cricket Club on Friday, March 22 to hot-foot it across scorching coals in aid of Bury Hospice.

I personally stepped out of my comfort zone to take on the challenge last year. I had to get into a state of mind that eliminated any possibility of pain before crossing the smouldering embers.

I kept our patients and their families at the forefront of my mind as my main motivation to successfully tread the fiery path.

Last year, hospice ambassadors, the McCheyne twins, launched the inaugural event by lighting the coals, before bravely across them.

Liam McCheyne, who stars as Dylan Wilson in Coronation Street and his twin brother Connor, raised more than £3,600 for the hospice, which was absolutely brilliant.

The brothers took on the challenge with such amazing passion and energy, all in the efforts of raising vital funds for local people who require the care services the hospice provides.

Last year’s event raised more than £7,300 and we are hoping to exceed that fantastic total, this year.

Staff members at the hospice will once again be braving the coals on March 22 and we invite you to join us.

There are still spaces available for anyone wanting to take on the challenge.

You may want to raise funds because you have first-hand experience with the hospice, or perhaps you want to support patients from the community, or maybe you’re like me, someone who felt the fear but did it anyway!

Having walked the coals, I can say that you have no reason to feel any fear as the expert event organisers at Firewalk UK guide you through the whole process, ensuring you get fired up, feel the heat and raise money for vital palliative and end-of-life care.

Whatever your reason for taking part, we want you to please never underestimate the difference the money raised will make to patients who are facing life-limiting illnesses.

And, of course, you are guaranteed to have a fun time!

You can enter the challenge as an individual, as part of a team or even as a family, however the minimum age is 13.

It costs £25 per adult (with a fundraising pledge of £150), £15 per child (with a fundraising pledge of £100), or £35 per joint entry of an adult and child (with a fundraising pledge of £250).
