Readers, if we’re yet to meet, I hope it isn’t long before we do. My team of volunteers and I spoke to 894 people last month.

I’m frequently asked on the doorstep, why are you standing to be MP for Bury North?

I’m deeply rooted in our community. Bury North isn't just an area to me, it's my family's hometown, going back three generations.

Just as I want the best for my family here, I want the best for yours too.

I don’t dismiss the struggles of making ends meet or raising a family in Bury North. Families across our town play by the rules, but it's tough.

And for many others, we know it's even tougher. After enduring 14 years of Tory government it's evident that our country is going backwards.

The general election ahead is one for change, not more of the same.

Our small businesses are hard pressed and on the edge. After surviving Covid they’re still fighting to stay afloat.

The cost of business has shot up with inflation, energy bills, staffing pressures, supply costs and a record level of taxation with very little to show for it.

It’s why I am joining the campaign to demand the Chancellor cuts VAT this year for hospitality businesses in Bury, Tottington and Ramsbottom and give them a fighting chance.

This pressure on businesses is because the cost of living crisis for families is still ripping through livelihoods.

Too many are relying on free school meals, and our food banks are busier than ever. Ordinary working people are feeling the squeeze, facing the highest taxes in 80 years.

Public services, including our beloved NHS, have become very public struggles.

Waiting times are up, and accessing essential healthcare services like GP appointments or dental care is increasingly difficult.

Despite these challenges, my faith in Bury remains. Our town believes in better, and we deserve better.

That's why I am standing as change Bury North can trust.

Labour has changed and is ready to lead Britain towards a brighter future. We're dedicated to improving everyday life for everyone.

To lifting the floor on which we all stand.

Together, we've achieved significant victories for Bury already. From saving the walk-in centre to securing vital NHS drugs for local families. I’m still with you shoulder to shoulder.

We've boosted funding essential services like our hospice and rallied to get the country behind saving Bury FC.

But this election year is about the future and there’s a huge amount to be done. Or as one neighbour put it to me, "where to start?!"

We need real change – change that puts more money in your pocket, revitalises public services, and invests in our children's education.

It's time to reclaim our streets from anti-social behaviour and crime, ensuring that every resident feels safe and secure in their community.

Bury North and Britain need change you can trust. I am that change here, and I am ready to work tirelessly to ensure that every one of us can thrive.
