A Jigsaw spokesperson said: “We were delighted to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award from Forever Manchester.

"It’s a privilege to work for Jigsaw.

"It's a special feeling when your hard work is recognised by others. We’re very proud."

Jigsaw aims to "promote fun, freedom and independence for disabled people while also working to prevent social isolation, improve the self-esteem of our members and increase community integration".

It helps "members to enjoy an active social life, to reach their sporting potential and to maintain a healthy lifestyle by running sports and social activities in the evenings and at weekends".

Members can join the group from the age of 13.

The lifetime achievement award was sponsored by Maxwell Bond and presented by Jess Thurston from Maxwell Bond, Tony Walsh and "Captain Manchester".

The event brought together 430 "passionate and dedicated Forever Manchester supporters".

Forever Manchester president Jim Wilkinson added: "The generosity of our local businesses and our local people is well known, but in a year where we’ve all experienced huge economic pressure, raising £100,000 in one evening is an amazing achievement.

"And knowing that 100 per cent of the money raised will stay in Greater Manchester to make grants and support grassroot community projects is the icing on the cake."
