A man has been charged after a police chase near Bury town centre. 

Officers were patrolling Wash Lane when a driver reportedly decided to "floor it" after seeing the police car.

After a police chase, the driver was said to have stalled the vehicle and tried to run away before being stopped by officers.

He was charged with three offences- driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to stop for police

Sharing a picture of the car that officers chased, a police spokesperson said: "On Saturday, March 9, town centre neighbourhood officers were patrolling in the area of Wash Lane when this vehicle decided to floor it upon sighting the police vehicle, officers managed to manoeuvre their vehicle around and engaged in a pursuit with the vehicle.

"The driver didn't get very far though as he dipped down a side street and overshot the bend stalling it before swapping his wheels for a foot chase. 

"Unfortunately for him he wasn't speedy enough and was outran by our officers who swiftly took him into custody!

"What would've been a simple chat asking the driver to slow down turned into more serious offences being discovered. 

"Don't commit crime on our roads as we take robust action to tackle it!"
