On Mothering Sunday we were glad to celebrate the amazing mothers staying in the inpatient unit (IPU).

All ladies on the unit were treated to a fantastic afternoon tea, with wine and prosecco available to share with a loved one.

The award-winning patissier and chocolatier, Slattery, donated beautiful trays of the finest handmade chocolate for the special event.

Tesco at Woodfield Retail Park, Morrisons in Whitefield and Asda in Radcliffe also kindly donated lovely items for the day, including flowers and sweet goods.

The generous donations from the community are always channelled directly towards the care and wellbeing of our patients.

These kind actions show our patients that their community cares for them and wants to support them and their loved ones through hard times, in the best ways they can.

IPU sister Rachel Gee said: “The ladies had a lovely day.

"The catering staff did a wonderful job of afternoon tea, displaying the cakes gorgeously on the cake stands, and we ensured wine and prosecco was available to our patients and their families if they wanted it.

“It was just a lovely day here at the hospice, we had lots of visitors come and see their mums, bringing flowers and cards, which was really nice.”

This year, Mother’s Day followed International Women’s Day on March 8. We at the hospice like to celebrate women in our community every day, and particularly on special days such as these.

While Mother's Day is a lovely celebration, we also know that it can be difficult for so many people.

That is why we created a tribute page where you can take the time to remember your mum, step-mum, grandma, or the person you feel deserves their own day of recognition.

The special page is also for anyone who’s missing their mum, grieving for their child, or just wishing that someone special was there for them on Mother’s Day or here today.

The Mother’s Day page is a space where thoughtful dedications, photos, messages and memories can be shared, and where life can be celebrated.

The page will be available for a while longer, so that anyone who hasn’t yet made a dedication still has enough time to decide on the way they want to remember their loved ones.

Visit buryhospicemothersday2024.dedicationpage.org to make a special dedication.

A huge thank you goes to John Slattery of Slattery and our community champions, Wendy Howarth of Tesco, Rochelle Gardner of Morrisons and Tammie Wakefield of Asda for their generous donations of Mother’s Day gifts.
