Travellers have parked up at a site of a Ramsbottom beauty spot.

A number of vehicles, caravans and vans arrived at one of the car parks of Nuttall Park on Thursday.

In a post on social media, Cllr Gareth Staples Jones said: “Members of the travelling community are at Nuttall Park.

"The council is aware, security is on site and the police have been informed.

“There are a number of things that need to happen in order to move them on legally - that process has begun.

“It’s not for me to judge someone’s lifestyle, and certainly a person will have my respect and trust until they abuse it.

“That being said, if there is vandalism to the park the police and council will be carrying out their obligations to enforce the law.”

The council has been contacted for more information.

A resident said: “There is concern that the presence of the travellers will impact on weekend activities, with Nuttall Park well used for footballing activities.

“Half-a-dozen or so caravans have camped up on the car park near the new children’s playground.”
