After the driver spotted police, a chase ensued – which police eventually abandoned due to the danger involved.

However, GMP’s Whitefield neighbourhood team and Bury town centre team, working alongside a police helicopter from the National Police Air Service, recovered the vehicle a short time later in Heywood.

Officers were then able to reunite the car with its rightful owner.

Now, police are asking for any help with establishing who was inside the car.

Those with information or dashcam footage are asked to contact PC Vipond on 18651@gmp.police.uk.

Alternatively, GMP can be contacted on 101 or through its website. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for more information.
