Bleed box kits have been installed in Bury town centre after community efforts were made to secure money for the lifesaving equipment.

Two of the kits have been installed on Silver Street after Rotarians and businesses including Stanley’s of Bury bar and Tesco contributed by fundraising.

A bleed control kit allows members of the public to help someone who has suffered a catastrophic bleed before emergency services can reach them.

This then gives a person who is injured a better chance of recovery as immediate first aid has been carried out.

Prevention of stabbing incidents are the main priority, but it is hoped that providing bleed kits to as many priority areas of Bury as possible will help save lives.

The Knife Angel monument is currently in Bury town centre to raise awareness of the devastating impact of knife crime.

But in the last 10 days there have been several knife incidents, including a triple stabbing near Bury Market on Monday, March 11.

The monument's powerful message shows that tackling the crime is needed more than ever.

There are now a total of six bleed box kits in Bury altogether.

The bleed kits cost £720 each and their locations can be identified by North West Ambulance Service.

The bleed kits will be locked by keypad locks but will be able to be accessed by a code given to the person ringing 999.
